I’m Mathew Aboujaoude, a Lebanese-American guitarist and the founder of Brick Floyd, a Pink Floyd tribute band that toured Texas and Louisiana across two US tours. I’ve been performing Pink Floyd’s catalogue live for over a decade. Throughout the years, I’ve obsessed and gone deeper into studying Gilmour’s playing and tones, over and over again. I’ve also been teaching guitar for over ten years and hold a Master’s Certificate in Advanced General Music Studies from Berklee.
What started as chasing the legendary tones became something else entirely. I broke down his technique across every era, studying his bends, his phrasing, the way he conveys emotions with very little notes. I watched any available live footage, listened to bootleg audios from every tour that exists, dozens of times, compared versions of the same solo recorded years apart to break down all the differences. Gilmour conveys more emotion with fewer notes than almost anyone who’s ever played. I’ve spent years understanding exactly why that works — and building a framework around it.
